We will host a special meeting: Inerview with an author -  our own Mr. Bill Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was a previous chairman of the Senegal Friendship Committee, and current Prince George's County resident.  He has written a book, "Young Man in a Hurry."                 This tells of growing up in the South, his military experience, and travels to Africa. 
Come and meet Mr. Hopkins, share his life experiences and the proces of authoring a book.

KWANZAA: December 26 - January 1, 2011:

Kwanzaa is a week-long observance to honor African culture and traditions in America. It falls between December 26 and January 1 each year.

  • Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.
  • Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves stand up.
  • Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together.
  • Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.
  • Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.
  • Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.
  • Imani (Faith): To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

First meeting of the 2011 - 2012 season!  The meeting will be the same time = 7:00 - 8:45 PM.  
  We are trying a one-time/different meeting location.   Our meeting will be held in the:
           Fireside Room at the Woodmore Wegman's
           9001 McHugh Drive
           Lanham, MD 20706
Stop in the Wegman's, pick up a beverage/food for yourself (if you like) and join us for our exciting first meeting of the new season

- Meeting with the Honorable Mayor Balde' of Ziguinchor and the Senegal Ambassador to the U.S, Ms. Fatou Diagne
- Attend the gala of the Union of Native and Friends of Casamance
- Last meeting until September.  Salad pot luck.  We will meet at our usual venue
- "Bakeless Bake Sale" in progress
